Whether you are a participant or a spectator, sport, like art, is all about passion.
Since then, skiing in all its forms has dominated winter competitions: Championships, Europa Cups and World Cups in Alpine skiing, biathlon, moguls, snowboarding and telemark. Young skiers from our valley have always distinguished themselves at international level: In Brides, Gaston and then Claude Perrot; in Méribel, Albert Gacon and Georges Mauduit in Alpine skiing, Lionel Laurent in biathlon, Marie Laissus and Julie Pomagalski in snowboard, the three Lau brothers in telemark, and Sacha Theocharis in moguls.
In recognition of this passion for sport and expertise in organising events, the International Ski Federation has awarded us the World Cup Finals in 2015 and 2022 and, jointly with Courchevel, the Alpine World Ski Championships in 2023.
We still remember the show jumping on snow which for eight years brought the best riders in Europe to our pistes, and also the eleven summer Air Shows and Astronautic Festivals which included the French aerobatic team, who still return, bringing back memories with their displays in the colours of the French flag.
In August, trail running and vertical kilometre competitions take place along our valley’s ridge; cyclists, following in the footsteps of the Tour de France, tackle the daunting Col de la Loze climb and passionate mountain bikers hurtle all the way down the slopes to the thermal village below.
